Survey & Data Limitations

A clear explanation of how our drone models, maps, measurements, and spatial data should—and should not—be used.

Not a licensed survey firm

Please note that Altus Reality is not a licensed survey firm, and any models or data produced through our drone services are for non-survey-grade planning as well as general informational and visualization purposes only. On their own, they are not intended to be used for property boundary determinations, legal surveying, or engineering-grade surveying projects such as:

  • Determining property lines or parcel boundaries
  • Construction or civil engineering projects requiring certified surveying
  • Subdivision planning or approval
  • Utility placement or infrastructure mapping that requires professional survey data
  • Environmental assessments requiring official topographic or boundary data

If your project requires official or certified survey data, our team is happy to work alongside a licensed surveyor, and we can take on measurable projects in partnership with the appropriate professionals.

Appropriate uses

Depending on project scope, our outputs may support visualization, general planning, progress documentation, stakeholder communication, preliminary measurement, model-based presentations, and non-legal spatial analysis.

Accuracy depends on scope

Capture conditions, equipment, control, processing choices, terrain, vegetation, and the requested deliverable all affect accuracy. We define appropriate methods and limitations when scoping each technical project.

Unsure what your project requires?

Tell us what you need to measure, map, or decide. We will explain whether our services fit the use case and when a licensed surveyor or another professional should be involved.
